Combine the talents of two famous American musicians, conductor Isaiah Jackson and composer/arranger Alvin Parris III and you get music with a difference, an electrifying mix of classical and gospel. They have chosen a programme to celebrate the music of the American South and Australia's own tradition of gospel which flourishes in the churches of the Torres Strait.
Add Australia's own Queen of Gospel Venetta Fields, a capella groups Chanticleer from San Francisco and the Sydney-based Heavenly Light Quartet, a 200 voice choir, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and the result is music that will have you tapping your toes, stamping your feet, clapping your hands and raising your voice as you join in this vibrant celebration of gospel music.
It is infectious, euphoric, celebratory, sassy and joyful. You don't have to be a believer to be carried away by its soul-stirring rhythms. Clap your hands! Stamp your feet! Raise the roof! And sing Hallelujah!
It's Gospel at the Symphony!
