PERIHELION
with Margaret Schindler, soprano

Perihelion has developed a reputation for provocative, innovative but always entertaining performances. Comprising clarinet, viola, cello and piano, the ensemble has a unique repertoire reflecting a post-modern sensibility with a distinctly Australian flavour. They also have an impressive history of commissioning new work, particularly from Queensland composers.

It is therefore fitting that two of the works in this concert have been commissioned by the Biennial. Gerard Brophy's Crimson Songs is based on Peta Spear's anthology of poems My Sweet Sex, while Elena Kats-Chernin has developed a fragment of Schubert's Du bist die Ruh into a ravishing vocal fantasia.

Perihelion is resident ensemble at the University of Queensland.
